shot-caller

One giving orders

A shot-caller is someone who makes decisions and gives orders—the person in charge.

The term originated in prison slang for gang leaders who direct operations from inside, but has spread to describe anyone wielding real authority in a group: He's the shot-caller around here.

In sports, a shot-caller is the player who determines plays or strategy.
