shopman
British retail worker
A shopman is a man who works in a shop, either as the owner or as an employee serving customers.
The term is chiefly British and somewhat old-fashioned: The shopman measured out a yard of cloth.
In industrial contexts, a shopman may work in a machine shop or similar facility rather than a retail store.
