A screwpine is a tropical plant of the genus Pandanus, with long, spirally arranged leaves and prop roots that extend from the trunk.
Despite the name, it's neither a pine nor closely related to one—the spiral leaf arrangement suggested the screw, while the overall form vaguely recalls a pine.
The leaves are used for weaving mats and thatching.
