dioecious
Male-female plant division
Dioecious describes a species in which male and female reproductive organs occur on separate individuals.
A dioecious plant has some individuals that produce only pollen and others that produce only seeds: Holly is dioecious—you need both male and female plants to get berries.
The term contrasts with monoecious, where both sexes appear on the same individual.
Pronounced die-EE-shus.
