savant syndrome
Extraordinary isolated talent
Savant syndrome is a rare condition in which a person with significant cognitive or developmental disabilities displays extraordinary ability in a specific area—typically music, art, mathematics, or memory.
The abilities often appear suddenly and without formal training: He could play any piece of music after hearing it once.
Most savants are autistic, though not all.
The term derives from the French word for "learned" or "knowing."
