sarcomas

Cancers of tissue

Sarcomas are malignant tumors arising from connective tissues—bone, cartilage, muscle, fat, or blood vessels.

Unlike carcinomas, which develop from epithelial cells lining organs and skin, sarcomas originate in the body's structural and supportive tissues.

They are relatively rare cancers: The biopsy revealed a soft tissue sarcoma in her thigh.

Singular: sarcoma.
