sandhopper
Jumping shore crustacean
A sandhopper is a small crustacean that lives on beaches, typically burrowing in sand near the high-tide line.
Sandhoppers jump when disturbed, using their curved bodies to spring considerable distances—hence the name.
They feed on decaying seaweed and other organic matter.
Also called a beach flea or sand flea.
