sand drift

Desert's shifting mound

Sand drift is the movement of sand particles carried by wind, or the accumulation that results from such movement.

Like snowdrifts, sand drifts pile up against obstacles—fences, walls, vegetation—creating mounds and ridges.

Sand drift had buried the fence posts.

The term applies both to the process and to the deposited formation itself.
