salt pond
Coastal saline basin
A salt pond is a shallow body of water with high salinity, either occurring naturally in coastal areas or constructed for salt production.
Natural salt ponds form where seawater becomes trapped and evaporates.
Commercial salt ponds are managed to concentrate brine until salt crystallizes and can be harvested: Workers rake the salt ponds in late summer.
