rugby tackle

Bring them down

A rugby tackle is a method of bringing down an opponent by wrapping your arms around their body or legs and driving them to the ground.

Unlike American football tackles, rugby tackles must wrap—no shoulder-only hits allowed.

The term extends to any forceful takedown outside the sport: Security made a rugby tackle on the pitch invader.
