ruffed
Wearing neck plumage
Ruffed means having a ruff—a ring of distinctive feathers, fur, or other growth around the neck.
The word appears almost exclusively in the names of certain birds and mammals: the ruffed grouse, a game bird of North American forests, and the ruffed lemur of Madagascar.
