rover missions
Wheeled space expeditions
Rover missions are space exploration programs that deploy wheeled robotic vehicles to traverse and study the surfaces of other celestial bodies.
Most famously associated with Mars exploration, these missions allow scientists to examine terrain, collect samples, and conduct experiments across distances a stationary lander cannot reach: The rover mission discovered evidence of ancient water.
The term encompasses both the spacecraft journey and the subsequent surface operations.
