autonomous navigation
Self-directed path planning
Autonomous navigation is a system's ability to determine its location and plot a course without human input.
The term applies mainly to vehicles—self-driving cars, drones, spacecraft, underwater robots—that use sensors, GPS, and algorithms to move through environments independently.
The rover used autonomous navigation to traverse the Martian terrain.
