rotoscoped
Filmed then traced
Rotoscoped describes animation or video that has been traced over live-action footage frame by frame.
The technique, called rotoscoping, creates fluid, realistic movement by using filmed actors as reference: The fight scenes were rotoscoped from actual martial artists.
It also allows seamlessly combining live action with animated elements.
That rotoscoped sequence took months to complete.
