root cutting
Underground stem section
A root cutting is a section of plant root used to propagate a new plant.
The cutting is taken from a healthy parent plant, placed in soil or growing medium, and develops shoots and its own root system.
Many perennials, shrubs, and trees can be propagated this way: Take root cuttings in late winter when the plant is dormant.
