rock pools
Shore's natural aquariums
Rock pools are small bodies of seawater that collect in depressions and hollows along rocky coastlines when the tide recedes.
These shallow pools trap marine life—anemones, crabs, small fish, and seaweed—creating miniature ecosystems that children explore and marine biologists study.
Also called tide pools, especially in American English.
