riverbottom

Stream's lowest terrain

Riverbottom is the low-lying land along a river, typically featuring rich alluvial soil deposited by flooding.

These flat, fertile areas have historically attracted farming and settlement: They grew corn in the riverbottom.

The term also refers to the actual floor of a river channel.

Often written as two words: river bottom.
