Ringneck is informal shorthand for any bird or animal with a distinctive ring of color around its neck.
Most often it refers to the ring-necked pheasant, a popular game bird: We flushed a ringneck from the tall grass.
It also commonly names the Indian ringneck parakeet, kept as a pet, or the ringneck snake.
