rights and duties
Entitlements and responsibilities
Rights and duties are complementary concepts in ethics, law, and political philosophy.
A right is something you're entitled to—free speech, fair treatment, property ownership.
A duty is an obligation you owe—to obey laws, fulfill contracts, or respect others' rights.
The two are often linked: Your right to speak freely implies my duty not to silence you.
Legal rights carry enforceable duties; moral rights suggest duties that may not be codified.
