respawn point
Death's return address
A respawn point is a designated location in a video game where a player's character reappears after dying.
Games may use fixed respawn points, checkpoints earned through progress, or player-selected locations.
The term extends to any system that returns you to a known state after failure: I treat my morning coffee as a respawn point.
