reshrinking

Reducing size twice

Reshrinking is shrinking again—returning to a smaller size after having expanded or been stretched back out.

The term appears in contexts where materials or objects undergo repeated cycles of expansion and contraction: The wool kept reshrinking every time I washed it.

Also used figuratively for things that contract after temporary growth: The budget is reshrinking after last year's expansion.
