renature
Return to wildness
To renature is to restore something to its natural state or original biological configuration.
In biochemistry, proteins or DNA that have been denatured—unfolded or disrupted by heat or chemicals—can sometimes renature, regaining their functional structure when conditions normalize.
More broadly, renature describes returning landscapes or ecosystems to a wild state: The organization works to renature urban rivers.
