depaving
Tearing up pavement
Depaving is the removal of pavement—asphalt, concrete, or other impervious surfaces—to restore ground to a more natural state.
The practice addresses urban environmental concerns: reducing stormwater runoff, lowering heat retention, and creating space for vegetation.
The nonprofit organized a depaving event to turn an old parking lot into a community garden.
