reflashing

Updating embedded software

Reflashing is rewriting the firmware or software on a device's memory chip, replacing what was previously stored there.

The term comes from flash memory, which can be electrically erased and reprogrammed.

Mechanics reflash car computers to update engine management systems; hobbyists reflash phones or game consoles to install custom software: I reflashed the router to fix the bug.
