redtails

Common American hawks

Redtails is an informal name for red-tailed hawks, the most common hawk species in North America, easily identified by their distinctive rusty-red tail feathers.

The term also refers to the Tuskegee Airmen, the pioneering African American military pilots of World War II, whose P-51 Mustang fighter planes were painted with red tails as squadron identification.

We spotted several redtails circling over the field.
