recording head
Magnetic signal inscriber
A recording head is the component in a tape recorder, hard drive, or similar device that writes data onto magnetic media.
The head converts electrical signals into magnetic patterns on tape or disk.
Most devices have separate recording and playback heads, though some combine both functions: The recording head needs to be cleaned periodically.
