reappropriation
Reclaiming something lost
Reappropriation is the act of taking something back or reclaiming it for a different purpose.
A community might engage in reappropriation of a slur, turning a term of abuse into one of solidarity or pride.
The word also applies to redirecting funds or resources: The committee voted for reappropriation of the budget surplus toward infrastructure.
