rapid response team
Quick reaction unit
A rapid response team is a group of medical professionals who can be summoned immediately when a hospitalized patient's condition deteriorates suddenly.
Unlike code teams called for cardiac arrest, rapid response teams intervene earlier—when vital signs worsen or something seems wrong—to prevent full emergencies: The nurse called the rapid response team when the patient's breathing became labored.
The concept has spread beyond hospitals to any group assembled to address urgent situations quickly.
