ranch town
Rural livestock community
A ranch town is a small settlement in cattle or sheep country, existing primarily to serve the surrounding ranches.
Such towns typically have a general store, a feed supplier, maybe a bar and a church, but little else: The nearest ranch town was forty miles of dirt road away.
The term evokes the rural American West.
