rain check
Promise for later
A rain check is a promise to honor an offer at a later time.
The term comes from tickets issued when outdoor events are rained out, allowing admission to a rescheduled date.
Now it applies broadly to declined invitations or unavailable sale items: I'll take a rain check on dinner—can we reschedule?
Stores issue rain checks when advertised products sell out.
