quantised
Divided into packets
Quantised is the British spelling of quantized, describing something restricted to discrete values rather than continuous ones.
In physics, energy is quantised—it comes in packets (quanta) rather than flowing smoothly.
The term extends to any system where values jump between fixed levels: The signal is quantised into 256 steps.
