purpose statement
Reason for existing
A purpose statement is a formal declaration of why an organization, project, or document exists—its fundamental reason for being.
Unlike a mission statement, which describes what an entity does, a purpose statement addresses the deeper why: The company's purpose statement emphasizes improving quality of life, not just selling products.
Purpose statements also appear in academic and professional writing to announce a document's aim: The purpose statement should appear in your introduction.
