purity laws
Standards of untaintedness
Purity laws are religious or cultural regulations governing what is clean or unclean—what may be touched, eaten, or done without spiritual contamination.
Jewish dietary laws (kashrut) and Islamic halal rules are examples.
The term also describes Nazi racial legislation restricting marriage and citizenship based on ancestry.
The purity laws forbade contact with the dead.
