pumping gas
At the station
Pumping gas is the act of refueling a vehicle at a gas station, operating the pump to transfer fuel into the tank.
The phrase often appears in discussions of entry-level or minimum-wage work: I didn't go to college to end up pumping gas.
In some U.S. states, attendants pump gas for customers; elsewhere it's self-service.
