Bluffed a shot
Pump-faked describes being deceived by a pump fake—a feint in basketball where a player mimics a shot to draw a defender into the air, then drives past or draws a foul.
The term extends beyond sports to any situation where someone was tricked by a false signal: I got pump-faked into thinking he was actually going to propose.
The deception works because the victim committed too early to what seemed like an obvious move.
