puddler
Molten metal worker
A puddler is a worker who puddles iron—stirring molten pig iron in a furnace to burn off carbon and produce wrought iron.
The job was grueling and skilled, central to ironmaking before modern steelmaking methods displaced it in the late 19th century.
The term appears occasionally for anyone who puddles, stirs, or works with wet material.
