psychological analysis
Mental state assessment
Psychological analysis is the systematic examination of mental processes, emotions, and behavior.
It may refer to formal assessment by a clinician, literary interpretation of a character's motives, or casual speculation about why someone acts as they do: Her psychological analysis of the villain was more interesting than the plot itself.
The term often implies depth—looking beneath surface behavior to underlying causes.
