pseudoscorpion

Stingerless scorpion lookalike

A pseudoscorpion is a tiny arachnid that resembles a scorpion but lacks a tail and stinger.

These creatures have the characteristic pincers of their larger relatives but measure only a few millimeters long.

They're harmless to humans and often live unnoticed in leaf litter, under bark, or in household dust.

Also called false scorpion or book scorpion, the latter for their habit of appearing in old books where they hunt booklice.
