propitiations

Acts of atonement

Propitiations are acts meant to appease or regain favor with someone who has been offended or angered.

The word carries religious overtones—sacrifices and offerings to placate gods are propitiations.

More broadly, any gesture of atonement qualifies: His propitiations included flowers, apologies, and promises to change.

The singular propitiation is more common.
