propanols

Isopropyl and n-propyl

Propanols are alcohols containing three carbon atoms.

The two forms are 1-propanol (n-propanol) and 2-propanol (isopropanol), differing in where the hydroxyl group attaches to the carbon chain.

Isopropanol is the familiar rubbing alcohol used as a disinfectant and solvent; 1-propanol appears mainly in industrial applications.
