Joe Louis

Legendary Detroit boxer

Joe Louis was an American heavyweight boxer who held the world championship from 1937 to 1949, the longest reign in heavyweight history.

Known as the "Brown Bomber," he became a symbol of American strength and racial pride, particularly after his 1938 knockout of German boxer Max Schmeling during the rise of Nazi Germany.

His name is sometimes invoked as a byword for boxing greatness or knockout power: He thinks he's Joe Louis in the ring.
