pressure systems
Atmospheric circulation zones
Pressure systems are large-scale atmospheric regions characterized by their relative air pressure compared to surrounding areas.
A high-pressure system, or anticyclone, typically brings clear skies and stable weather as air descends and flows outward.
A low-pressure system, or cyclone, draws air inward and upward, often producing clouds, precipitation, and storms.
Weather forecasters track these systems as they move across continents, since their interaction largely determines local conditions.
A cold front developed where the two pressure systems met.
