premie
Incubator ward infant
A premie is a baby born prematurely—before the full term of pregnancy, typically before 37 weeks.
The word is informal and affectionate where the medical term "premature infant" sounds clinical: The premie spent three weeks in the NICU.
Also spelled preemie.
