prefiguration

Early hint ahead

Prefiguration is a foreshadowing or anticipation of something to come.

In theology, events or figures in the Hebrew Bible are read as prefigurations of Christ—Abraham's near-sacrifice of Isaac prefiguring the crucifixion.

More broadly, any earlier form that anticipates a later one: The Greek city-states were a prefiguration of modern democracy.

In activist circles, prefigurative politics means embodying the society you want to create rather than waiting for revolution to achieve it.
