Pre-seed describes the earliest stage of startup funding, before a company has a product or significant traction.
Pre-seed investment typically comes from founders themselves, friends and family, or angel investors willing to bet on an idea: We raised a small pre-seed round to build our prototype.
The term positions this phase as preceding the more formal seed round.
