post-hypnotic suggestion
Delayed hypnosis trigger
A post-hypnotic suggestion is an instruction given to someone during hypnosis that they're meant to carry out after waking from the trance state, often without conscious awareness of why they're doing it.
The classic example involves a hypnotist telling a subject to perform some action when triggered by a specific cue: At the sound of a bell, you will stand up and crow like a rooster.
The term also appears in broader contexts to describe any influence that seems to compel behavior automatically.
