mental imagery
Seeing without eyes
Mental imagery is the experience of perceiving something in the mind without external sensory input—seeing, hearing, or otherwise sensing things that aren't physically present.
When you picture a friend's face, imagine a melody, or mentally rehearse a speech, you're using mental imagery.
The vividness varies widely between individuals; some people experience rich, detailed mental pictures while others have little or no visual imagery at all.
Athletes use mental imagery to rehearse movements, and it plays a role in memory, creativity, and problem-solving.
