poison dart

Blowgun's lethal load

A poison dart is a small projectile—typically a slender needle or thorn—coated with toxic substances and used as a weapon, often delivered by blowgun.

The term is most associated with indigenous peoples of Central and South America who apply plant or frog-derived toxins to hunting darts.

Poison dart also appears attributively in poison dart frog, the brightly colored amphibians whose skin secretions provide the toxins traditionally used on such weapons.
