plumb lines
Weighted string tools
Plumb lines are cords with weights attached, used to establish true vertical.
Builders and surveyors hang them to ensure walls and structures are perfectly upright—the weight pulls the string straight down toward the earth's center.
The term appears in figurative contexts suggesting a standard of moral or spiritual alignment: using scripture as a plumb line for conduct.
