plecos
Algae-eating catfish
Plecos are freshwater catfish native to South America, popular in home aquariums for their algae-eating habits.
They have armored plates, sucker-shaped mouths, and can grow surprisingly large—some species exceed two feet.
Short for plecostomus: I got a pleco to keep the tank clean.
